Minutes of the 11/01/99 BRARS Club Meeting

• Meeting was called to order by President Buddy, KA4END, with introductions of members and guests.
• Applications that were approved for membership at the October 4, 1999 meeting:

• Regarding the application of:
  KD4IKO J.R. (Rusty) Kirkpatrick 351 Old Georgia Rd Moore SC 29369
  A question was raised from the floor as to whether Mr. Kirkpatrick had resolved a past problem between him and the Spartanburg Amateur Radio Club (SPARC) regarding an alleged instance of money received by him for club activities on behalf of the Spartanburg Amateur Radio Club, that had not been satisfactorily accounted for. After discussion, the members present at that meeting voted to TABLE MR. KIRKPATRICK'S APPLICATION FOR MEMBERSHIP until the January 3, 2000 meeting. This is to give Mr. Kirkpatrick time to resolve any unresolved problems with the Spartanburg Amateur Radio Club. It was suggested that Mr. Kirkpatrick obtain from the SPARC Secretary a letter to the effect that the situation has been resolved between him and SPARC.
• N4ENX Sue, gave a report on the Boy Scouts Jamboree On The Air (JOTA) held on October 15,16, and 17 near Fountain Inn, SC. Jeff and Kay Borke coordinated the Amateur Radio participation of the event, but could not be at the meeting to make the report. Sue said that there were several hams that came out to help with the setup, radio demonstrations, radio oriented show and tells, and be control operators for on-the-air contacts. Sue said it was a real blast and urged everyone to come out next year and participate.
• NOMINATING COMMITTEE, consisting of Les Shattuck K4NK; Gary Goudelock KF4YKX; and Joe Swafford KE4RNF;. presented a proposed slate for the Officers and Directors for Year 2000 as follows:

  Vice Pres	KM4TN, Al Holden
  Secretary	W4RGW, Bob Watson
  Treasurer	WA4ULE, Carlisle Rogers
  3-Year Director	(None Presented)

No other nominations were made from the floor at the November meeting.

If you would like to run for an office, or know of anyone who might like to run and is willing, you may nominate them from the floor at the December meeting.

• Nathan Reynolds, KG4DXU has volunteered to take the newsletter editorship.
• Discussed the growing problem of intermod noise on the repeaters. A point was raised as to whether it is time to install some type of tone access on the repeaters. Folks had different opinions and the issue was tabled for future discussion.
• Discussed potential Hamfest Locations. Still Looking!!
• Dan Donovan, KF4VIS presented a short video on recent news coverage on hurricane activity by amateurs in the area.
• Door Prize won by KF4YKX, Gary Goudelock.
• Meeting adjourned.

• NOTE: December Meeting will be on Monday, December 6, 1999 at Quincy's at 1701 White Horse Road near I85. Eat at 7:00 with elections and business meeting after eating. Dutch treat with everyone paying for their own (15% service charge will be added to each bill to cover service). Les Shattuck K4NK has made arrangements for a private room that will hold about 55 people. If you don't want to eat, come anyhow. Les K4NK and Joyce N2PIW are coordinating the event and will have a bunch of door prizes to be given away.

• RSVP -PLEASE: CALL JOYCE or e-mail to let her know that you are coming so they can make sure that there will be room for everyone. Spouses or Significant Others are welcome.

LATE BREAKING HAMFEST NEWS:

The 2000 UPSTATE HAMFEST will be held on

Saturday, 29 APRIL, 2000 at the Spartanburg County Fairgrounds

(Actually called the "Piedmont Interstate Fairgrounds" and located just northwest on downtown Spartanburg, 2.5± miles south of Hearon Circle off of (old) Businesss I85)

F.Y.I.: The first Saturday of May had previously been booked by someone else for 2000, so the last Saturday in April was the next best date. (We have reservations for the first Saturday in May for Year 2001 and thereafter!!)
